Endorsed by Mayor Jacob Frey

I’m proud that Mayor Jacob Frey has endorsed my campaign for City Council in Ward 7! He said:

“Elizabeth is the responsive, authentic leader Ward 7 needs. From policing to economic prosperity in Downtown and Uptown, she is all about practical action to make Minneapolis a safer and more vibrant city. I look forward to having a thoughtful, collaborative leader like Elizabeth on the City Council.”

I’m excited about Mayor Frey’s endorsement not just because of the boost his support will give our campaign, but because I appreciate his leadership and vision. We’re aligned on many critical initiatives that are of great importance to Ward 7 residents including:

  • Affordable housing: Mayor Frey has been a strong advocate for affordable housing. Policies he championed are helping drive an increase in the construction of new housing throughout the city, and are helping provide a greater range of housing options by streamlining zoning. Increasing the development of rental properties and providing home ownership options that first time buyers can access is a much better approach than rent control.

  • Public safety and police reform: More work remains, but we’ve made much progress under the leadership of Mayor Frey and Chief O’Hara, including notable strides in police recruitment, retention, and reform. Mayor Frey’s strong support for, and coordination with, Chief O’Hara has been crucial for both the MPD and Minneapolis as a whole, and it’s critical that this partnership continues.

  • Budget Discipline: I support many of the ideas Mayor Frey is proposing in the 2026 city budget. As a whole, they should help control property tax increases while focusing resources on the highest priority core city services. I didn’t at the time, nor do I now, agree with the city council’s decision to override Mayor Frey’s veto of the 2025 budget and its 71 amendments. With our Ward 7 incumbent’s support, the majority added over $6 million in new spending for ward-specific projects, bypassing the normal procurement and vetting process, while simultaneously depleting critical cash reserves and diverting funds from core city services.

Do I appreciate the other candidates running for mayor? Absolutely. I found and returned a lost backpack filled with small treasures to one of Jazz Hampton’s children after the Ward 7 convention. I know DeWayne Davis from our work together in the Stevens Square community. Running for any political office takes courage, and it means subjecting yourself to half-truths and misinformation, so I admire anyone who steps forward. That being said, I’m convinced that at this critical moment, Minneapolis needs a steady, experienced, pragmatic leader like Jacob Frey.

Thank you, Mayor Frey, for your leadership and endorsement. I’m excited about your vision for our city and I’m grateful you agree I’m the right person to represent Ward 7. It’s time to chart a better way forward for Minneapolis.
